Lisa Schwab

Executive Director

Lisa Schwab began on the Board of Directors when ACTL was founded in 2009.  Jennifer Wilson asked Lisa to participate because of her fundraising experience, social work experience, and passion for advocating for quality education for impoverished children in the Chicago land area.  Lisa has worked in a community mental health center and for the last fourteen years as a school social worker, in both a rural community school and the last eleven years in an urban area outside the city limits of Chicago. She received her Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) from Illinois State University and in 1998 earned her MSW from University of Illinois at Chicago.  Lisa is committed to creating change and helping ACTL grow to be a worldwide asset.

Tiffany Haulton

Chair

Tiffany Haulton has been on the board since 2011. Jennifer Wilson asked Tiffany to join the board because of her background in education. As a teacher for the last 12 years, Tiffany has experience working with both urban and rural school districts. She has worked closely with Jennifer to incorporate literacy strategies across the curriculum, specifically in the visual arts.  Tiffany is currently responsible for  the bi-annual fundraiser in St. Louis. Tiffany is honored to support her best-friend’s dream of providing educational opportunities to those in need.

Janelle Bondor

Vice-Chair

Janelle Bondor was one of the founding members of the ACTL Board of Directors in 2009.  She is also a passionate traveler and volunteer like Jennifer, saw the needs of underfunded students and schools firsthand.  Janelle shares the ACTL commitment to improving the educational opportunities for students abroad and for those in underfunded schools in the US.  With volunteer and teaching experience in South America and Africa, as well as the United States, Janelle expands our international and local connections.  She currently lives and teaches in Istanbul, Turkey.

Julie Niehaus

Secretary/Treasurer

Julie Niehaus was added to the Board of Directors in the Summer of 2011.  Jennifer Wilson requested Julie to be a board member for her business experience particularly in the management and marketing areas.  Julie is a staff member at the University of South Carolina and former colleague of Dr. Jennifer Wilson.  She works as a manager in the Office of Educational Outreach which provides the opportunity of degree work and course work for teachers across the state of South Carolina.

Pam Jewett

Board Member

Pamela Jewett is an associate professor at the University of South Carolina in the Language and Literacy Program, Instruction and Teacher Education Department, and she had the pleasure of being one of Jennifer’s colleagues.  She and Jen conducted research together, studying whole-school reads and book clubs at a local middle school. Their research resulted in numerous publications in national and international journals as well as presentations at professional conferences.  They also shared a passion for children’s and young adult literature and spent hours poring through each other’s libraries, finding books that one or the other had missed, and discussing literature for children of all ages.  Pamela currently studies multicultural children’s and young adult literature written in the United States and abroad and content area literacies. She is honored to be a part of ACTL’s Board and feels privileged to support their mission of providing access to educational opportunities for underserved students in this country and around the world.
